New Delhi: The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) has rejected the Congress's plea seeking income tax exemption on large donations.
The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) has refused to grant income tax exemption on donations worth Rs 199 crore. The Congress had filed a plea seeking exemption for the tax year 2017-18.
The Congress will not seek any relief for the income tax demand of up to Rs 199 crore in party funds pending since 2018-19.
The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal or ITAT has dismissed the party's claim for exemption for late filing of IT returns and violation of cash donation limits.
"The assessee's return filed on 02.02.2019 is not within the 'deadline' date to qualify for the objectionable exemption," the ITAT said.
