Piyush Chawla appreciated the ‘collective effort’ of young team India at Lord’s

New Delhi: Former Indian spinner Piyush Chawla praised the Indian team’s passion to fight in the Lord’s Test. With this, he outlined the collective contribution of the youth team in this series against England.

Piyush Chawla told the news agency IANS, “You win or lose, there is discussion, but honestly, India played good cricket in this series. There were many young players in the team, but the way the Indian team played cricket, the credit goes to the players to a large extent.”

The former cricketer appreciated the collective strength of the entire team instead of any one player, saying, “When 11 players land on the field, you cannot expect only one player. The best players of India play in the playing-11, only then they are on the field. So I do not want to do injustice with anyone by taking any one. When you land on the field, I hope from every player.

In the Lord’s Test, hosts England team was reduced to just 387 runs in the first innings. For the team, Joe Root scored the most 104 runs, while Bumrah was the highest five wickets. In response, India’s second innings was also reduced to 387 runs. KL Rahul scored 100 runs for Team India, while Rishabh Pant contributed 74 and Ravindra Jadeja contributed 72 runs to the team’s account.

England’s second innings was reduced to the score of 192. In such a situation, Team India needed 193 runs to win, but on the last day of the match, the visiting team lost important wickets in the first session. Ravindra Jadeja scored an unbeaten 61 runs, but no other batsman could support him at the other end. Host England won an exciting win by 22 runs and took a 2–1 lead in the five-Test Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
